Forsyth County Victory
With over
800 people present both inside and outside of the Forsyth
County Government Center the Forsyth County Commissioners
have voted 4-3 to appeal a law suit brought against them
by the ACLU. A Federal Judge had ruled that sectarian
prayer may no longer be offered before the Forsyth
County Commissioners Meetings. This is a very important
victory on behalf of our free speech rights.
The Chairman
of the Forsyth County Commissioners, Mr. Dave Plyler, who
held the swing vote, had stated that he would oppose the
appeal unless he was assured that tax payer's money would
not be used to pay the court cost. Organizations in
Forsyth County raised a total of $400,000.00. We at
Berean Baptist Church and our radio station WPIP 880 rose
over $75,000.000 and made a commitment of $100,000.00 for
the cause of religious freedom.
By the start
of the meeting at 6:00 p.m., the chamber room, several
overflow rooms, and the lobby was filled with an
additional estimate of 150 people standing outside the
building.
When the
vote was cast, hundreds of people jumped to their feet in
applause, cheers, and praise to the Lord for the
tremendous victory. The people exited the chamber to hear
those in the lobby and outside the building singing "Victory
in Jesus".
This ruling
will now be appealed to the 4th Circuit. We
ask our readers to pray fervently that freedom may prevail
in this matter. |
